The streets of Arcania are overrun with crime, deteriorating as a madman named Fortune makes himself at home. He shows no mercy, striking down anyone in his path – including Nova Benson’s little sister. Devastated, Nova vows to seek justice for her family, but aside from her freak strength and impenetrable skin, how is she supposed to stop a monster like Fortune?

Cole Warner wants to help people. Entrusted to keep his family’s secret, he’s also frustrated at having to hide his gift. He knows he could do more to help in the fight against Fortune. If he could convince his sister Penelope to join him, they might even have a chance at beating him. When Cole meets Nova, he realizes his whole world is about to change. And he’s going to welcome it with open arms.

Falling for each other wasn’t part of the plan.

Then again, neither was becoming a superhero.

Fortunes Favor_FINAL-ebooksm

Nova will learn it takes more than sheer strength to be a superhero. Her world implodes when Fortune strikes back for all the trouble she’s caused. His dangerous games put everyone around her at risk, especially when he decides to turn Arcania against its precious Heroes. Nova wants to protect Arcania, but how does she save a city that doesn’t want her help?

Cole has no idea how to deal with his sister Penelope, especially now that she’s learned the truth about their family secret. Thanks to Fortune, she’s headed down a dark path, one with no return. Torn between helping Nova and protecting his sister, Cole will be forced to make a choice. Tensions rise as Cole and Nova discover war will come to Arcania if they don’t get Fortune off the streets…or preferably six feet under.

Nova and Cole might have each other, but will they lose everything else in their mission to save Arcania?

Unbreakable_FINAL-ebooks,

Nova started the fight against Fortune for simple revenge, but now it’s turned into something much bigger. Arcania’s criminals are at each other’s throats, putting the city right in the middle of a warzone. She’ll have to work with a few unlikely allies to end Fortune’s games once and for all. Nova thought she understood what it meant to be a superhero, but will she have to lose herself to truly defeat Fortune?

Fortune has given Cole a choice, one with unbearable consequences. When Cole takes matters into his own hands to save his sister Penelope, he realizes too late he’s another pawn in Fortune’s games. Fortune will use Cole’s gift against his enemies…including Nova. Cole will have to become the hero he always wanted to be if he’s going to protect the love of his life.

Nova and Cole could finally save Arcania from Fortune’s deadly games, but are they willing to sacrifice each other?

Book review - Recoil by Joanne Macgregor

When a skilled gamer gets recruited as a sniper in the war against a terrorist-produced pandemic, she discovers there’s more than one enemy and more than one war. The Game is real.

Three years after a series of terrorist attacks flooded the US with a lethal plague, society has changed radically.

Sixteen year-old Jinxy James spends her days trapped at home – immersed in virtual reality, worrying about the plague and longing for freedom. Then she wins a war simulation game and is recruited into a top-secret organisation where talented teenagers are trained to become agents in the war on terror. Eager to escape her mother’s over-protectiveness and to serve her country, Jinxy enlists and becomes an expert sniper of infected mutant rats.

She’s immediately drawn to Quinn O’Riley, a charming and subversive intelligence analyst who knows more about the new order of government and society than he is telling. Then a shocking revelation forces Jinxy to make an impossible decision, and she risks losing everything.

(I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review)

Recoil by Joanne Macgregor is the first book in the Recoil Trilogy. It's written from Jinxy's point of view and she's a 16 year old girl in the middle of a Rat Fever Plague that's been around since 4 years ago.

Jinxy plays in The Game, which is highly popular ever since the Plague 4 years ago, when everyone stays locked up at home. She's a sniper in the game and by winning it, she's invited to play in a real-life simulation alongside a few others.

After the real-life simulation game, she was recruited to join ASTA - Advanced Specialized Training Academy - as a sniper. The recruits there are all broken into groups. The groups are colour coded and no one is to speak of what they do in training outside their own group.

Jinxy met Quinn - fellow recruit - at ASTA. Quinn's in another group so they have no idea what each is training for. They got close really quickly and things were looking good for them. However on graduation day, something happened that changes all that.

As a professional sniper, Jinxy was to take out infested rats as well as any other infested pets. Her mission grew more as time went on and she's had to take on more difficult targets.

Something was revealed at the end regarding Jinxy and she's had to make a difficult choice involving saving Quinn and following what she thinks is morally right.

I really love Jinxy and Quinn and hope to see more of them, especially Quinn's cockiness.

Absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for book 2 Refuse!

Book review - Wrong Place, Right Time by Elle Casey

Jenny’s single-parent life revolves around her kids and her job, which means that hours of Animal Planet and strings of computer code are about all she has time for. Not that Jenny’s looking for adventure or romance—she’s the type of woman who believes in playing it safe.

When Jenny is called upon to do some consulting for the Bourbon Street Boys—a New Orleans private security firm—she knows she should stay away. They conduct surveillance on known criminals and put themselves in harm’s way pretty much every day, so No is the obvious answer…Problem is, there’s a guy on the team with a body to die for and a dimple that just won’t quit luring Jenny in, tempting her to throw all caution to the wind.

Will Jenny take the risk or will she do what she’s always done—play it safe and wait for the right time?

(I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review)

Wrong Place, Right Time is the 2nd book in The Bourbon Street Boys series and the first book I've read by Elle Casey.

This book is narrated from Jenny's POV and she's quite a funny girl. She talks way too much when she's nervous and there're various comedic scenes.

Jenny was asked by her sister May to help in consulting and possibly freelancing at May's workplace. Once Jenny was there, her adventure starts and she met Dev - a huge seven foot tall guy who's got the cutest dimple.

Over the next two weeks or so, Jenny got to know Dev more and more and it's obvious they've fallen for each other. Jenny seems to attract a fair bit of misfortune though as she finds herself in a pickle from time to time. Jenny and Dev finally got together towards the end of the book but I wish their scene could've been even more intense and romantic.

Overall, this was a fun book to read and Jenny is very likeable. I hope to read more books by this author!

About Avery Flynn:
Award-winning romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip. Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Excerpt:

“Dom—”

The rest of the sentence was smothered by the white cotton cloth he held in his free hand and forced against her nose and mouth. Shock froze Elle to the spot. She couldn’t blink. She couldn’t breathe. All she could do was feel the banging of her heart as panic sent it into overdrive. The people who killed her family had found her.

“This is for your own good,” he said as he looked down at her. “I couldn’t take the chance you’d fight me, and there isn’t time to explain.”

Too damn bad for him, because her fight-or-flight response zinged into action. Whatever was in the cloth, she didn’t want to breathe it in. Adrenaline clawed at her, demanding life-giving oxygen, but she refused to give in. They might have murdered everyone she loved and sent her into hiding, but she wouldn’t go down without a fight. She grabbed his arms, yanking and stabbing her nails into the sliver of his wrists not covered by his shirt. He didn’t flinch.

Dom kept his cold gaze on her, a icy determination making them even bluer somehow. “Just relax and breathe.”

Fat fucking chance. Holding on to his forearms for leverage, she slammed her knee upward, aiming for his most vulnerable spot. He deflected the move with an ease of a natural athlete or a man trained to do whatever it took to force the world to do his bidding.

She fought against him, kicking and hitting, but he kept the cloth pressed against her nose and mouth. Her lungs burned with the effort not to breathe as she struggled in his iron grasp, but it didn’t do her any good. Blackness ate around the edges of her vision, the lack of oxygen taking its toll. She didn’t have long before she’d pass out, with or without the help of whatever chemical was in the cloth.

Ten years. She’d made it a decade without anyone finding her, without her secret coming out. Foolishly, she’d thought she was finally safe. Now she’d pay the price for a crown she’d never worn and a kingdom she’d never ruled. Dom pulled her close to his hard chest so she wouldn’t fall to the cold marble floor, holding her tight but without cruelty. No doubt that would come later.

“Everything is going to be okay, Princess Eloise,” he whispered against her ear. “I promise.”

But it wouldn’t. She knew better than to ever trust a man who promised happy endings in the middle of a kidnapping.

Review:

This was hot hot hot!

His Undercover Princess by Avery Flynn features Elle, a princess in disguise, and Dom the billionaire with a secret agenda.

Elle has been in hiding ever since his father, the King of Elskov has been assassinated. Dom is part of the Resistance that's fighting to bring Elle back to the throne.

The first time Elle meet Dom there's no mistaking the attraction and sexual tension between them. They can't keep their eyes and hands off of each other. One thing leads to another and there's loads of hot steamy sex that you cannot get enough of!

I love the way the characters are portrayed by the author and all those hot steamy scenes! I just cannot get enough of Elle and Dom!
