To protect Logan, I've no choice but to betray his trust.
The stakes are high, and there are no guarantees.
But I'm not the only one hiding the truth.
Will our love survive all the secrets and lies?

Enemy alien ships crowd the skies over Earth while the world waits with bated breath. The Saven have been exposed, and where once they were abhorred, they are now championed as our greatest ally and our only possible savior.

Logan and Sadie have been separated, and the longer he is gone, the more their love is tested by duty, doubts, and deception.

Sadie and Jarod have infiltrated the highest levels of government, but they are playing a dangerous game. Surrounded by people with conflicting agendas--hell-bent on using her for their own aim--Sadie is confused when the lines between good and evil are blurred. It's impossible to tell friend from foe, and no one can be trusted.

When the full extent of the experiments taking place in Sector Twenty is disclosed, Sadie can no longer sit back and watch as the lower classes face a horrific fate. Racing to save her loved ones and mankind, she risks her own safety and the love she's waited a lifetime for to do the right thing.

Excerpt from Saven Disclosure:
I pad into the kitchen and hoist myself up onto a stool at the counter. Haydn slides two muffins and a home-made smoothie across to me. “You trying to fatten me up?” I inquire
“You need to eat more when you’re training.”
“I’m sure I read somewhere that you should eat more protein when in training. I doubt you’re supposed to be indulging in calorie-laden treats.”
“Watch your mouth!” Haydn swats me with a dish towel. “Those muffins are made with bran, yoghurt, honey, and fruit. All natural. And totally healthy. Now shut up and eat.”
“Ooh, get you! All right!” I hold my hands up in defeat. “But I doubt I’ll manage two.”
“You can give one to Jarod in work,” he suggests.
I snort. “As if he’d eat anything you prepared! I’d have to lie and tell him I baked it myself.”
Jarod isn’t over his aversion to aliens. And that’s putting it mildly. He absolutely refuses to go anywhere with me outside of work if any of my Saven friends is involved, and he hasn’t ever stepped foot in this apartment. It’s a constant source of tension between us; the cause of more than a few arguments. I understand he’s pissed over the whole memory-erase situation, and the fact that enemy alien ships still hover in our skies doesn’t do much to ease any human’s apprehension, but I’ve tried explaining, time and time again, that we have nothing to fear from Logan and Co., but he won’t hear a word of it.
While I’m grateful that Jarod managed to make it out of Thalassic City safely, and I’m thrilled to be working in the same building as him, sometimes I could happily bash his head against the wall.

Note from the author: This is from the unedited draft and the final version is subject to change.

Book review - Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

Seventeen-year-old Mercedes Ayres has an open-door policy when it comes to her bedroom, but only if the guy fulfills a specific criteria: he has to be a virgin. Mercedes lets the boys get their awkward, fumbling first times over with, and all she asks in return is that they give their girlfriends the perfect first time- the kind Mercedes never had herself.

Keeping what goes on in her bedroom a secret has been easy- so far. Her absentee mother isn’t home nearly enough to know about Mercedes’ extracurricular activities, and her uber-religious best friend, Angela, won’t even say the word “sex” until she gets married. But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.

When Mercedes’ perfect system falls apart, she has to find a way to salvage her reputation and figure out where her heart really belongs in the process. Funny, smart, and true-to-life, FIRSTS is a one-of-a-kind young adult novel about growing up.

(I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review)

I didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I have but I really liked it!

Mercedes is a seventeen year old with a mission - she's out to help virgins master their first times so that they can give the perfect first times to their respective girlfriends.

Now, did that sound a bit wrong? I mean why did Mercedes think that was a good idea? Why would the virgins think they're actually doing their girlfriends a favour by first sleeping with Mercedes? How would Mercedes even know if a boy really was a virgin or not?

All of these questions ran through my mind while reading this book but I didn't care, it was just too entertaining!

Apart from sleeping with the virgins, Mercedes has a regular boy in her life - Zach aka Chemistry Partner or Wednesday Friend. Every Wednesday lunchtime is reserved for Zach but they're nothing more than that. Zach wanted to make Mercedes his girlfriend but she refused. She knew Zach deserved better...

Something drastic happened and now the whole school knows about Mercedes and her sleeping with the virgins. She became the most hated person in the school and she felt like she's lost everything.

She was saved by one of her best friends Faye and Zach. It didn't make things go away but they gradually became whispers in the hallways instead of outright insults in her face.

I've always loved a happy ending and would you believe it but Mercedes and Zach got together in the end! :)

Review:
(I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review)

For the record, I love Siobhan Davis and I was eagerly awaiting the first book of her brand new Saven series.

The first book is Saven: Deception and it certainly doesn't disappoint! The story is written from Sadie's POV and she is a 17 year old girl from the lowest class in the society referred to as the Stars. She applied to take part in "The Experimento" and was overjoyed when she was picked to participate.

Participants in The Experimento are to spend 6 months in an underwater city called Thalassic City. Sadie met Logan who is the hottest guy she's ever laid her eyes on and he seems to be infatuated with her too.

Soon she found out he's not all he seems to be, in fact he's an alien! He told Sadie as much as he could about his race and the concept of soul mates. They realised they are indeed soul mates with the Eterno connection and they can communicate telepathically.

The government has allowed aliens go live among humans because they have struck a deadly deal with them. Sadie has discovered what's on the government's agenda and happens to befriend Jarod who is a member of a rebellious movement against the government.

Sadie is torn between sticking with Logan and helping Jarod with the underground movement.

As the story comes to an end we are left with more questions than answers and that made me look forward to the next installment even more!

Book review - Dark Rising by Monica McGurk

Can One Person Upend a Prophecy as Old as Time?

Hope Carmichael is on the run. The only question is, from whom?

The mark on her neck has branded her as part of an ancient prophecy, the Bearer of the Key. But the Fallen Angels have misunderstood and think Hope is their long-awaited way to regain Heaven by force. Now Hope is chasing down the artifact that could open Heaven’s Gates, while seeking to destroy it before the Fallen catch up with her. Will the Triad crime ring track Hope and exact their punishment before she gets the chance? Is the ragtag band of angels surrounding her now there to protect her, or imprison her? And will Michael, the Archangel sworn to defend Heaven at all costs, be forced to deny his love for Hope and take her life, instead, so that the artifact won’t fall into enemy hands?

The epic narrative introduced in Dark Hope continues in Dark Rising as Hope crisscrosses some of the most ancient sites in Europe and plumbs the depths of history in search of the truth about the Key, herself, and love. Exploring themes of identity, fate, jealousy, trust, and forgiveness, Dark Rising’s mythological scope and moral urgency deepen as we come to understand the choices and consequences faced by a young woman determined to follow her heart and chart her own destiny.

(I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review)

Once again, I enjoyed the 2nd book of the Archangel Prophecies.

Dark Rising takes us to Turkey, Ireland and France. For me, it was always full of action and I love reading the description of the places and architecture of these places.

We get to read more about Hope and Michael as well as some of the other angels. I liked it when Hope and Michael are together, and hated reading the parts when they were avoiding each other.

It was also nice to get to know more about Hope's parents Mona and Don, and I loved that they got closer near the end.

Hope figured out the puzzle to the Key last time and now she figured out the puzzle to the Gate. It was devastating for her once she realised it but she kept going on and never giving up.

I'm quite happy with the ending and look forward to the next book. There was a teaser chapter at the end for the 3rd book and it got me really excited for "Dark Before Dawn", the next book in the Archangel Prophecies.

I would highly recommend this series for anyone who loves angel stories.

Book review - Dark Hope by Monica McGurk

For years, Hope Carmichael, survivor of a shocking child abduction, has lived a sheltered existence under the protection of her fanatically religious father. Now, liberated by her mother, Hope prepares to start life over as a normal kid in an Atlanta, Georgia, high school.

Normal, that is, until Hope meets Michael, a gorgeous emancipated teen with a mysterious past and a strong interest in Hope. Soon, Hope’s life is filled with questions. What’s behind the angry looks Hope gets from Lucas, leader of a gang of students? Who’s responsible for sending Hope strange valentines inscribed with Bible quotations? How does this relate to the sinister business of human trafficking that operates on the periphery of Hope’s suburban world? And is Michael really a protector, or something more sinister—and just why does he seem so familiar?

In an epic narrative that takes readers from the back streets of Atlanta to the height of Vegas penthouses and beyond, Dark Hope introduces The Archangel Prophecies, a saga of vast mythological scope and great moral urgency.

(I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dark Hope by Monica McGurk.

The story started with a toddler girl who was abducted and was fortunately found 2 days later.

Fast forward 10 years or so and we have fifteen year old Hope who spent the majority of her life living with her Dad after her parents separated.

Hope requested to live with her Mom now, as she's had enough of the strict and watchful eyes of her Dad.

She found new freedom when she moved in with her Mom, who's always out of the country on business trips. She also got to start afresh at her new school.

She met Michael at her new school and their friendship blossomed. She had never really had a close friend in her previous school and found herself gradually attracted to him.

There was more than meet the eye with Michael and soon they embarked on an adventure to find an ancient relic that could save humankind.

I look forward to reading the next book, Dark Rising! :)

Excerpt:
Please note that this book is currently undergoing professional editing so this is an unedited sample. The final published version will be slightly different.

The stench of stale sweat, unwashed skin, and rancid body odor assaults my nostrils and I gag. The temp in the carriage must be pushing ninety degrees and a steady line of sweat coasts down my spine, gluing my shirt to my back. A craving to crawl out of my skin hits me like a bullet to the chest.
It’s not a new sentiment. It’s an urge I feel at least once every hour.
A potent desire to be anyone but myself.
To live any life but this one.
Heat rolls off the large body pressed into me from behind and the man grunts loudly. The desire to shed my skin accelerates and I shudder uncontrollably. Everywhere I look I’m confronted by a sea of grimy, male chests in dirty, sweat encrusted work wear. Being short sucks almost all of the time, but being stuck in the middle of an overcrowded, bursting-at-the-seams subway carriage, during one of the hottest heatwaves New York has ever known, sucks butt on a stratospheric level, and has me cursing the genes that stalled my growth at five feet one.
Claustrophobia swoops in, surrounding me in an anxiety-laced cloud, and I know I’ve reaching my tipping point.
I can’t bear this a second longer.
With my lungs screaming for air, I push my way forward, shuddering as I squeeze past more disgusting, heaving forms.
I fling myself out onto the platform in the nick of time. The train eases out of the station as my legs make a break for freedom. Bounding up the stairs two at a time, I thrust my tiny frame forward, propelling my legs as fast as they can go. My entire being strains for release.

Book review - Blood in the Water by Tash McAdam

There have always been warps—tears between realities—and they’ve always been a threat to humanity. Most people are blind to them. But Hallie’s eyes are opening. Now that she’s going to school at the Protectorate, she’s learning there’s more to life than fun and games.

The truth is, she’s just become part of Earth’s only shield against the monsters of the warps. Before, she didn’t think she was anything special. Now, yanked from her relatively normal life, she realizes that she doesn’t have a choice.

When the emergency alarm sounds, calling everyone in the school to arms, even the young and inexperienced are needed. As one of the warp weavers—capable of closing the warps and stopping the monsters—Hallie must now work to save lives. And she must do it in the most complicated situation she’s ever experienced. Because there are sea serpents in the Thames, and Hallie has to close the doors that are letting them in.

The problem is, they’re underwater, and they’re hungry.

Now everyone is relying on her, and Hallie must find a way to do her job—with a brand new partner—before it’s too late. Because if she fails she’ll die, along with everyone who’s depending on her.

(I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review)

Blood in the Water is a prequel to the Warp Weavers series.

Hallie is an ordinary teenager until she's called to join the Protectorate which is a mystical school for warriors, warlocks and weavers. She's a weaver who has the power to open and close doors between dimensions. She's responsible for sealing up breaches to keep demons out from this world.

She's only been at the Protectorate for about a month or so before an emergency alarm sounded at the school, calling the help of everyone including the newbies who has had next to no experience.

So far she's only closed 4 breaches, 2 of them were training ones. She's completely clueless as to what they're dealing with and what she needed to do. She was sent to a team of experienced warriors and warlocks, her being the only weaver in the group.

Hallie partnered with an experienced warrior Ruble and they entered the river Thames in London, heading straight into a pool of sea serpents while looking for breaches to seal.

Overall, this was a fast-paced and exciting read and a brilliant introduction to the Warp Weavers series.

Blood in the Water is the second title I've read by Tash McAdam and I look forward to many more!

When destiny finally rears its head, what will the future hold?

My Review:
(I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review)

Where do I start? This was mind-blowing!

I was very much looking forward to this, after all it concludes the True Calling trilogy.

Ari has now regained her memory after her Vita implant was successfully removed. She remembered something dreadful that involved Zane and it made her feel guilty all over. She's not willing to open up tp Cal about it as she's afraid he will see less of her once he finds out about it.

Throughout the book, it was fast paced and action packed, with the unfortunate loss of lives of several characters we know about.

There was a big reveal quite early on that totally caught me off guard. I could not have predicted it at all but it made sense and you realise how it's connected to the past.

Ari made her decision quite early on regarding who she loves most and wants to spend the rest of her life with. I had secretly hoped that she'd change her mind in the end. But the author tackled the love triangle really well and I was very satisfied with the ending.

The complete True Calling series is highly recommended and I now look forward to another brand new series (the Saven series) by the author!

Praise for Destiny Rising:
“It was beyond brilliant, totally unputdownable, wildly entertaining, edge of the seat action, full of suspense; it totally rocked. Loved the ending, loved the book.” Karla. Goodreads Reviewer.

“This is without a doubt the best book this author has written so far. I loved it from the start until the end. This series shows how a love triangle can be done right. Destiny Rising evoked so many emotions in me … and the ending, wow, so powerful. I highly recommend this series.” Lola’s Reviews.

“I cannot believe all of the whammy that this author packed into her book. It’s insane how quickly she’s put out these three books, and the quality is so incredibly good.” Danielle. Paraeducator and Goodreads Reviewer.

“The events in this book, especially the ones I thought I could handle, left my heart and mind racing. Siobhan Davis is an exceptional writer and she knows how to wrap a reader around her fingers.” Khayzelle. Written Arts Blog.

“Suspense, and the urge to turn the page were almost overwhelming, resulting in quite a few long nights. The story is complex, but solidly built. Good to the last page.” Patricia Hamill. Author Blogger. Puretextuality. @PatriciaHamill2

“I cannot put my love for Siobhan Davis’ True Calling series into words – it’s easily one of my favorite series. Destiny Rising tugs at your heart strings and messes with your feelings, but it is so wonderful. The writing is brilliant and flows wonderfully. Davis’ brings the series to a close with an epilogue that ties everything perfectly together. What a fantastic ride…”
Danielle. RamblingB00ks Blog.

“True Calling was great, and Beyond Reach was awesome, but Destiny Rising took the series to a whole new level. This series deserves to become as well-known as popular series such as The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, Divergent, etc... It's that good.”
Rose. Paranormal Books Blog.

Book review - The Selection by Kiera Cass

Thirty-five beautiful girls. Thirty-five beautiful rivals…

It’s the chance of a lifetime and 17-year-old America Singer should feel lucky. She has been chosen for The Selection, a reality TV lottery in which the special few compete for gorgeous Prince Maxon's love.

Swept up in a world of elaborate gowns, glittering jewels and decadent feasts, America is living a new and glamorous life. And the prince takes a special interest in her, much to the outrage of the others.

Rivalry within The Selection is fierce and not all of the girls are prepared to play by the rules. But what they don’t know is that America has a secret – one which could throw the whole competition… and change her life forever.

(I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review)

I loved The Selection.
I don't care what the other reviewers say, but this book is near perfection for me.

America Singer comes from a poor family from the caste of Fives.
She received a letter inviting her to apply for the Selection, in which a girl from each Province will be sent to the Palace as a potential wife for the crown prince Maxon of Illéa.

The entire Selection will be aired on TV and as you can imagine America was very reluctant to apply. Her mom pesters her about it everyday and even bribed her to sign up. She has a secret boyfriend who's a Six and he managed to persuade her to enter her name into the lottery too.

She did enter in the end and she was selected to represent her Province in the Selection. So off she went to the Palace to meet the other 34 girls. As expected, the competition was very fierce with some particularly bad characters trying to sabotage everyone else's chances with Maxon.

At the end of the book, Maxon had to narrow down to the Elite few. There was supposed to be the top 10 girls who would be the Elite but Maxon made the difficult decision to only pick out 6 girls, America included.

We will find out what happens during the next round as the top 6 battle out in book #2 The Elite.
